A comparison of MS based imaging using DESI, MALDI and SIMS
This poster relates to work carried out under project O3 of
the NMS Chemical and Biological Metrology programme.
Mass spectrometry based imaging techniques such as
desorption electrospray (DESI) and MALDI (matrix assisted laser desorption
ionisation) imaging are proving to be very useful tools in an increasing number
of application areas such as forensics (e.g. analysis of inks) and biochemistry
(e.g. detection of cancer biomarkers). These techniques complement the more
established SIMS imaging technique for surface analysis. The poster describes
all three techniques, and assesses the advantages and limitations of each
technique.
The poster was presented at the 56th ASMS (American
Society for Mass Spectrometry) conference on mass spectrometry and allied
topics held in Denver, Colorado, US
on 1-5th June 2008.
