Traceability in chemical measurement - meeting the requirements of accreditation

1 day training course

Reliable measurement results depend on competent staff, validated methods and equipment, comprehensive quality systems and traceability to appropriate measurement standards. Accreditation to ISO/IEC 17025 is a demonstration that these requirements have been met. Establishing traceability is a relatively new of accreditation. To achieve comparability of results over time or from one location to another, it is essential to link all the results to some common stable reference or measurement standard. Traceability is the process of linking results to an appropriate reference.

What are the benefits?

This course will help you:

  • Gain a better understanding of traceability;
  • Meet the traceability requirements of ISO/IEC 17025;
  • Understand how reference materials can be used to achieve traceability;
  • Select appropriate reference materials and plan how to use them;
  • Develop procedures to ensure traceability.

Contents

The course will cover:

  • An introduction to traceability;
  • Traceability to reference materials and measurement standards;
  • Types of reference materials;
  • How to achieve traceability of results from ‘empirical’ methods.

Who should attend?

This course is designed for laboratory staff who have responsibility for the quality of measurement results, e.g. current or potential laboratory manages, quality managers, etc.
