Essentials of Nucleic Acid Analysis

The publication of this book was supported under the National Measurement System Measurements for Biotechnology Programme 2004–2007.

The use of DNA analysis has grown exponentially over the last 20 years, finding uses in areas such as forensic science, pathogen identification, food authenticity and medical diagnostics. The technology behind the analysis has also developed rapidly with a wide range of techniques and products being introduced each year.

This book aims to give structured guidance to analysts wanting to obtain good quality results. The VAM principles gave a foundation for the formulation of this book, and their application to DNA analysis a central theme.

The book covers topics such as qPCR, microarray analysis, analytical requirements, the analytical process, reliable measurement, quality control and quality assurance. The reader is given the necessary information for making valid qualitative or quantitative DNA measurements ensuring that the correct result is achieved first time.

This book is an essential tool for the DNA analyst for designing, planning and carrying out high-quality DNA measurements.

This book can be obtained from the RSC website.  For further information contact the NMS helpdesk at LGC.
