Suggested protocols for the production of a universal product ion library

Suggested protocols for the production of a universal product ion libraryThis poster relates to work carried out under project O5 – Protocols for the production of a universal product ion MS/MS library of the NMS Chemical and Biological Metrology programme.

Single platform collision induced dissociation (CID) product ion libraries have been developed on in house systems for many years, with some vendors having introduced commercial CID product ion libraries for their platforms. However, a truly instrument/vendor independent CID product ion library is not yet a reality. This is in-part due to the wide variety of instrumentation capable of producing CID product ion spectra, and the difficulties in standardising across all of the analyser/source configurations commercially available.

This poster outlines the issues of a universal product ion library and describes two suggested protocols for a universal product ion library; it also describes a promising new approach to library searching.

This poster was presented at the British Mass Spectrometry Society annual meeting held at the University of York in September 2008.
