Training resources on laboratory skills and quality assurance
This poster relates to work carried out under project KT1 – Improving awareness and uptake of programme outputs of the NMS Chemical and Biological Metrology programme.
Laboratories are increasingly required to demonstrate the competence of their staff and to document how competence was assessed. Although analysis of samples may be carried out using sophisticated instruments, sound practical skills are essential for achieving valid results. To help ensure the reliability of results it is also important that staff have a basic understanding of key quality assurance and quality control activities.
Two resources have been produced, which address these training needs:
The laboratory skills training handbook provides a training package in key laboratory skills and an introduction to important quality topics. It also assists trainers in developing a laboratory skills training programme.
The quality assurance training resource is a comprehensive web-based training package which provides an overview of the key topics associated with ensuring the quality of chemical and biochemical measurements. The resource has been designed for laboratory scientists, trainees and those involved with developing training programmes. The resource includes training material and case studies on important QA topics.
This poster was presented at the Association for Clinical Biochemistry Focus 2009 Conference held in Liverpool in May 2009.
