Measurement for Innovators
The Measurement for Innovators programme is designed to promote innovation by making the expertise and facilities of the UK National Measurement Institutes (NMIs) NPL, LGC, NEL and NMO available to UK industries.
The programme is managed by NPL and delivered by the NMIs. There are three activities giving opportunities for industry to access the expertise of the NMIs. Each is designed to tackle a different type of problem:
Joint Industry Projects (JIPs) - To enable industry and the NMIs to formally collaborate to overcome measurement challenges and thereby assist companies to develop new or improved products, processes and services.
Secondments - To assist the development and transfer of knowledge between the NMIs and UK companies by supporting the movement of people between organisations for a limited period of time.
Consultancies - To allow NMS scientists and experts to provide advice to UK SMEs (small companies) to help solve measurement problems relating to specific products or services.
These activities can include on-site measurement, training, or a personalised measurement service and can cover any number of issues including:
- Verification of a new product or process
- Measurement uncertainty
- Increase of productivity
- Quality assurance
- Legislation compliance
If you have a measurement problem blocking your route to market, or the equipment needed to solve the measurement issue is prohibitively expensive, and there is no commercial service supplier to suit your needs, the Measurement for Innovators programme may be able to help.
Using this service could not be easier. It is free to talk to our independent experts and up to two hours help and advice is available to all callers. Contact the NMS helpdesk at LGC.
